Abstrakt: The article presents a population-related comparison of selected physiological factors to determine the tolerance of Silene vulgaris to copper (Cu) from various locations in Czechoslovakia. The study shows that the highest tolerance in population is from the locality with the highest soil Cu content. It discusses the results on the complex metabolic responses to Cu stress with emphasis on phenolic metabolism. It also indicates that growth and tissue water content of Silene were not affected in any of the populations by Cu excess.
