The article examines the implementation of the Situation and Background and the professional's Assessment and Recommendations (SBAR) communication approach which is aimed to mitigate surgical morbidity and mortality. It mentions that communication failures caused 11% of preventable adverse events leading to permanent disability in Australia. It also notes that the SBAR approach is among the various recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) aside from the Surgical Safety Checklist. |
