Abstrakt: This article discusses a study which describes an evaluation of the use of distance sampling in estimating the population of western ringtail possum or Pseudocheirus occidentalis in Western Australia. The study used a rectangular 5.3-ha isolated patch of peppermint low closed forest with scattered marri trees. It also used the program Distance 6.0 to estimate the density of the animals. The study suggested to use the technique in future surveys of the animal's population to improve the accuracy of estimates.
