Abstrakt: The article discusses United States government efforts to inform the public about methylmercury contamination in tuna. Although the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency have issued advisories warning consumers about the possible dangers of eating tuna, the authors believe certain social groups such as minorities and low-income citizens do not have adequate access to these warnings. Therefore, the authors conclude that these social groups are at an increased risk for possible mercury poisoning. The authors suggest the U.S. government not offer tuna to low-income citizens through its Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
