Abstrakt: The article provides information about creation and revival of a system of rituals and ceremonies expressing the values and norms of Soviet socialism and assisting their introduction into everyday life. These rituals and ceremonies span a wide spectrum. They range from mass political ceremonies, such as the celebrations of the anniversary of the October Revolution, over initiation rituals into various social and political collectives, such as the Pioneers, the Army, the working class, to such individual rites de passage as the Festive Registration of the New-Born Child, the secular wedding and funeral rite. In addition, there is much ritual and ceremony in the festivals of the calendar cycle, such as a Harvest festival, a summer solstice, or a Winter carnival. While the mass political holidays have been celebrated without interruption since the Revolution, most of the initiation rituals date only from the 1960s. Conversely, the ritual object is secular if it is regarded as humanly created and thus changeable. Now the transcendent principle inspiring ritual behavior in Soviet society is, of course, constituted by the norms and values embodied in Soviet Marxism-Leninism.
