Abstrakt: Until recently the UK lagged behind both Europe and the USA in acceptance of the principle of integrated design and its application to buildings, but rapid progress has enabled the gap to be closed. After a short historical review, the aims and philosophy of integrated design are stated and their implication for the lighting, heating, ventilating and acoustical aspects of design are detailed. Design factors are illustrated by reference to buildings recently erected in the UK, and the problems, and success of the solutions adopted, are discussed. The further research and development projects which are needed for fully comprehensive integrated environmental design are indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
