The paper gives the results of a field investigation to determine how the differential of a thermostat influences the setting of the thermostat by the occupants of warm air heated houses. It shows that the setting is dependent on the minimum cycle temperature and not the mean. Thus, by reducing differentials energy savings are possible by reducing the setting of the thermostat.
