Abstrakt: This manuscript provides an alternative to professional literature for expanding one's knowledge base of hearing impairments and related issues. The alternative described proposes the use of books written by individuals with hearing impairments, their family members, or teach ers. For discussion purposes, the books are grouped into five categories: (a) technology associated with hearing impairment; (b) language acqui sition and methods of communication; (c) adjustment to hearing impairment; (d) normalcy of individuals with a hearing impairment; and (e) family perspectives in dealing with hearing impairment. Utiliza tion of this source may be helpful in facilitating inclusion of students with hearing impairments because of the firsthand insights they provide. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
