This article summarizes the results of the fourth study of analysis re liability based on current file production at the Human Relations Area Files.1 A total of 3,190 pages from 226 sources was analyzed for this repli cation study. The average absolute coding agreement for this unit was sixty percent. Major category agreement, measured in terms of absolute agreement, was eighty-seven percent; when mutual cross-references and adjacent categories were taken into consideration, the adjusted major agree ment level reached ninety-one percent. As noted in the previous paper in this series (Beierle and Levinson 1978), a number of specific OCM cate gories have been found to be especially difficult to apply consistently. These particular categories are identified and the inherent difficulties of applying them in analysis are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
