Alcoholuseand abuseis widespread among Native Americans. As aresult, much research has focused on this topic. To date, however, no comprehensive compilation of the literature exists. This article attempts to remedy the situation by providing a preliminary, annotated bibliography on the subject and a brief review of the various methodological and theo retical approaches reported in the literature. While the authors are in the process of compiling a comprehensive version, this preliminary bibliog raphy represents an attempt to make available as soon as possible the most significant citations.
