The article focuses on the violence of the Congolese National Liberation Front (FNLC) rebels in Shaba and Kolwezi in Congo. It reports that the FNLC, also known as the Tigers, led by Nathaniel Mbumba, is campaigning to overthrow President Mobutu Sese Seko. It relates that the FNLC rebels invaded Shaba, wherein they brutally massacred 80 whites and 200 blacks. According to Nairobi Bureau Chief David Wood of the journal "Time," the attack is similar to the best-organized and largest stolen-car ring in history, wherein the rebels took an estimated 350 automobiles from the Kolwezi residents. It mentions that the rebels who were tracked down by 600 paratroopers of French Foreign Legion have retreated to east Angola. |
