Abstrakt: The article presents a roundtable discussion on the right to die of a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It describes the case of a 45-year-old man with a two-year history of ALS and had a respiratory problem that led him to refuse hospice and have a tracheostomy tube placed for chronic mechanical ventilation. Greg Carter, of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the University of Washington at Seattle, reiterated the role of the physician to educate the patient about what the disease course will entail.
