An essay is presented on the relations between painters and engravers in London, England from 1760 to 1850. It explores the role played by reproductive engravers in supplying reproductions of paintings and helping promote the painters' reputation. It discusses the art of engraving as a means for the reproduction of painted originals. It also examines the conflict between artist and engraver due to an indeterminacy of their relationship. |
