Understanding of Black adolescence is limited due to the cultural bias inherent in much of the research literature. This bias is reflected in the philosophical approaches, theoretical frameworks, sampling, instrumentation, and data analysis used in the study of Black youth. Only recently have scholars moved toward studying Black adolescents in appropriate cultural context.
