Understanding of Black adolescence is limited due to the cultural bias inherent in much of the research literature. This bias is reflected in the philosophical approaches, theoretical frameworks, sampling, instrumentation, and data analysis used in the study of Black youth. Only recently have scholars moved toward studying Black adolescents in appropriate cultural context. This essay discusses the legacy of cultural bias and recommends strategies for building a new scholarship on Black adolescence. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
