Transfer of flame retardancy from treated to adjacent untreated cotton was observed in vertical burning of a series of cotton fahrics made flame retardant with THPOH-NH3 or Fyrol 76-NMA; these tests were run in 2- and 3-layered combinations with untreated cotton. The presence of a small amount of THPOH-NH3 flame retardant (FR) sub stantially increased the burning rate over that of untreated cotton in three of the four combinations. With increasing FR content, the rate increased linearly up to the point, where burning did not occur when two layers of FR fabric and one of untreated cotton were pesent; for the other two combinations increases were initially large and subsequently in diminishing proportion to the add-on. When Fyrot 76-NMA was used as the FR, similar but lesser ejects were noted. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
