The article discusses the nursing management of patients infected with HIV and AIDS, in response to the article "HIV and AIDS: transmission, testing and treatment," by J. Flannigan, published in a 2008 issue of the journal. Issues such as the side effects of antiviral drugs, providing holistic nursing care, and the social stigma associated with HIV status are discussed. The author reviews the role of the nurse with respect to patient counseling before and after HIV testing is conducted. |
