The article focuses on the insufficiency of wildland fire prevention and control in Russia. It outlines the factors which caused 22,000 wildland fires in Russia in 2009 including poor preventive treatments, air support, firefighting resources, and remote sensing information. It elaborates the need for Russian government to have fire behavior prediction systems to identify the areas that will be affected by the fire. It also mentions the impact of forest exploitation on the increase of wildfires. |
