The article describes the art of hand marbling. The method of decorating paper called hand marbling traces its origins to 16th and 17th century Europe. The name was derived from the designs that are made to look like marble and the technique is based on floating colors that are achieved by using an oily substance on an aqueous base. Other areas where marbling can be used are in dress materials, gift wrap papers and wall papers. |
