Examines the effects of the carotenoids lutein and lycopene on monocyte surface molecule expression (MSME) in two independent studies on the immune function that involved healthy adult male nonsmokers. Marked increase in plasma levels of each carotenoid after dietary supplementation; Impact of each carotenoid on MSME not as striking as those of another study after beta-carotene supplementation. |
