Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the application of sensor fusion in global positioning system (GPS) satellite navigation for forestry in the U.S. It describes the Virtual Forest approach to generate a tree map, which allows a robotic wood harvester to locate itself accurately to enable automatic navigation to the next tree for cutting. A workflow chart depicting the components of the navigation system is presented.
