Abstrakt: The article examines the differential item functioning (DIF) and major depressive episode (MDE) symptoms between respondents with and without a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in the 2001-2002 National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions. Results reveal that the presence of GAD raised the chances of reporting any symptom of MDE. There was no evidence of significant DIF of MDE symptoms in respondents with and without GAD.
