A typical land-based natural gas facility was chosen as a site for proposed installation of a Vapor Recovery Unit (VRU) and replacement of the existing natural gas-operated controls with pneumatic-operated controls. The VRU captures excess natural gas from storage tanks which would normally be vented to the atmosphere and compresses it to send to the sales pipeline. The constant bleed of natural gas from control valves is another source of unnecessary waste of natural resources and pollution. The instrument air system compresses air from the atmosphere, dehydrates it, and sends it through tubing to the appropriate control valves and air lines. Significant cost savings and emission reductions can be achieved by converting to a compressed instrument air system and adding a vapor recovery unit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
