The article discusses the change in technological agrarian conditions and control during the course of the 19th and 20th centuries that made farmers active participants rather than passive victims in dealing with changing weather. The ability to forecast weather, irrigate, protect against frost, control plant disease, use fertilizer, understand climate effects, and have an array of seeds to select from are all factors examined in the increasing power of farmers to manage climatic and weather consequences. |
