Abstrakt: The article examines the significance of shadow scenes in films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It mentions the possibility that the scenes may demonstrate a wild proliferation of alternatives. Cited are the distribution of the roles of hospitality in the five shadow scenes that compete in "Strangers on a Train." Also described is the resemblance between "Rope" and "Rebecca" over the use of the camera to trace the invisible movements of the victims. The shadow scenes reportedly show that the characters' deaths are overshadowed by the future.
