Abstrakt: The article presents an essay that explores the history of education in Uganda. It examines how village schools brought education and literacy into communities on a much wider scale than was achieved with later, more refined schools. While schools developed to have higher standards, the number of schools funded by the government declined sharply. The essay explores how this decision was made and discusses the impact it has had on Uganda.
