Abstrakt: The phase formation and the kinetics of metal reduction during the interaction of natural iron-manganese tantalum niobates (microlite, struverite) with carbon are studied by X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. The reduction of the minerals is a multistage process. In the case of the reduction of struverite, the intermediate phases are represented by tantalorutile and rutile and carbide phases then form. The interaction of microlite with carbon is first accompanied by the preliminary decomposition of the mineral into sodium and calcium tantalates, and carbide phases then form as a result of reduction.
