Abstrakt: We studied the parameters of lipid peroxidation and glutathione systems, energy production, and GABA metabolism in rat brain hemispheres after a 6-h brain ischemia induced by occlusion of both carotid arteries. We showed the development of oxidative stress in the brain and blood plasma, an increase in Krebs cycle enzyme activities, and a decrease in GABA catabolism enzyme activities. Simultaneous injection of panthenol (200 mg/kg, i.p.) and succinate (100 mg/kg, i.p.) led to a successful correction of the above disturbances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
