| Abstrakt: |
The article explores the genetic and environmental risk factors for chronic and aggressive periodontitis. There is a strong evidence that the familial aggregation associated with inherited genetic traits is one of the main risk factors for aggressive periodontitis. It was found that chronic periodontitis has also a genetic basis, but, the effect of the genetic influences on both diseases is not understood. Smoking and plaque levels are also associated with both diseases. |
