Abstrakt: The article discusses the painted screens illustrating the chapter 29,"Miyuki: The Imperial Outing and Hunt" of the classic Japanese novel "Genji Monogatari" (Tale of Genji) acquired by the National Gallery of Australia of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The literary work is considered as the first novel in the world. Elegance is said to be retained in the painting despite setting the scene in the 17th century. Japanese art supporters Andrew and Hiroko Gwinnett assisted in the purchase.
