The article discusses the navigation's prototype system in environments challenged by global positioning system (GPS). It notes the two classes of applications that place stringent demands on the positioning/orientation device which are the man-portable mapping and imaging systems and guidance/control of construction. Information about the state-of-the-art radio frequency (RF) terrestrial positioning technology called Locata and the differences of such technology with GPS are also indicated. |
