The article discusses the highlights of the convention held by the North American institution International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW) in Davos, Switzerland from September 27 to October 2, 2009. The topics tackled included increasing avalanche awareness, the tools and programs available for assessing risk and making decisions in dealing with an avalanche and strategies to survive from an avalanche. Also tackled were the risk facing avalanche-rescue personnel, first-aid for avalanche victims and the impact of climate change on the length of ski season. |
