The article focuses on early 20th century Mexican politician and diplomat Gilberto Crespo y Martínez. The author presents biographical information on Crespo y Martínez and discusses his activities as Mexican diplomatic representative in Havana, Cuba, from 1885 to 1911. He considers the different diplomatic roles he held in Cuba and discusses Mexico's changing diplomatic policy toward Cuba in the context of its perception of the presence of the United States in the Caribbean region. |
