The article focuses on the potential of the General Electric (GE) open-rotor to improve noise and cruise performance of aircraft based on tests conducted at the Glenn Research Center of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Ohio in October 2009. Robert Nuttall of Rolls-Royce had the same views on open-rotor which was used by the firm and believes that its application on aircraft will make them quieter. The open-rotor consists of two counter-rotating, aft-mounted blade sets that have lower fan pressure ratio. |
