The article discusses the Weesageechak Begins to Dance festival which the Native Earth Performing Arts (NEPA) based in Toronto, Ontario founded in 1989. Since its founding, the festival has presented over a hundred works by Aboriginal artists and collectives, half of which, have elevated to full mainstage productions. NEPA has expanded into a professional theatre company that performs works created by prominent and emerging Aboriginal artists and provides a voice to a minority that has long been silenced or under-represented. |
