The article discusses a retrospective study which determines the detection rate of fetal and chromosomal abnormalities at routine ultrasound examinations. An analysis of all fetuses with an ultrasound diagnosis of malformation in Malmö, Sweden in 2000-2005 was made and of scans in all women at 18 and 32 weeks. It is found that the rate of malformations in normal fetuses was 68% with a detection rate of 37% at less than 22 weeks, while the rates in abnormal fetuses were 46% and 33%. |
