The article discusses the aspects of the combat experience of war veterans that influence their psychiatric presentations in acute settings. The veterans' combat exposure and severity of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are similar to those experienced by career military. Symptoms given include marital stress, employment and financial concerns and integration into civilian life. About 15% of soldiers deployed to Iraq are women who are too frequently victims of sexual harassment and assault. |
