Abstrakt: An interview with Richard W. Bailey, professor emeritus of English at the University of Michigan, is presented. When asked about what is linguistics, he said that linguistics involves the study of language and one should describe acquisition by watching babies begin to use languages. Bailey hopes that someone demonstrates ways in which one can use an untagged corpus to derive useful information about the history of English. He comments that dictionaries are reports on the language.
