The article discusses the achievements of the Weaving Workshop of the Bauhaus school of design and craft in Germany and its contribution to modern textile design. When the school's Pottery Workshop shut out women, and when the Bookbinding Workshop was closed, all female would-be artist and architect applicants entered the Weaving Workshop. In 1930, a contract was signed with the Berlin textile firm Polytextil which gave students the opportunity to be involved in every phase of textile production. It mentions some of the students of Gunta Stölzl during her tenure at Bauhaus such as Anni Albers and Margaretha Reichardt. |
