The article reports that the studies which showed deaths attributed to the 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) lack evidence that bacterial pneumonia occurred concurrently with the virus as it did in previous influenza A infections. An overview of the study conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is offered. The article argues that the cases from the report did not come from a systematic sample which is needed to determine and quantify the role of bacterial lung coinfections.* |
