Magnetization reversal of patterned magnetic structure consisting of single and double coupled ultrathin magnetic layers is simulated by solving Landau-Lifshitz equations. Barkhausen's steps on the magnetization hysteresis loop originating from magnetization lateral edge pinning are predicted and analyzed in dependence on the size of rectangle patterns for Permalloy films. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
