The article presents a study on organic dust toxic syndrome (ODTS), a noninfectious influenza-like illness, which affects urban landscape workers in Colorado. Among the methods used in the study include interviews of 43 employees regarding their illness and occupational exposures, review of medical records, and examination of Mulch samples for fungi and endotoxins. Findings show that 12% of the respondents had respiratory illness due to prolong exposure to Mulch which is compatible to ODTS. Moreover, Mulch samples were found out to contain high levels of Aspergillus spores and endotoxin which are the possible source for assumed ODTS among workers. |
