The article provides information on the aspects of meaning in "The Girl with the Wine Glass" painting of Jan Vermeer. It discusses how the painting works as a device for viewing and interrogation as well as bringing forth the substance of meaning itself. According to the article, the painting is a challenge of the pictorial codes and the awareness of human conditions. It notes that Vermeer has installed the subject matter in a totally new modern way through scale, perspective and contrast to defined pictorial codes. |
