The article reports on the application of the Lamaze psychoprophylaxis technique in the management of the problem pedodontic patient. The technique is used in difficult children undergoing a dental procedure, namely receiving an intra-oral injection of a local anesthetic. In this technique, no equipment is required other than a few simple props. Moreover, it utilizes very little chair time as much of the therapy is performed in the child's home by the parent. The technique also eliminates the fear-pain syndrome by educating the child to the anesthetic process. |
