The article addresses the reentry of ex-convicts to society following imprisonment, with particular focus given to reentry reform in the U.S. The authors offer criticism of the U.S. criminal justice system, which they connect with racism and continued criminal punishment. Statistics are presented concerning the rates of incarceration for African Americans, and associations between race and criminal behavior are explored. Mass incarceration, disciplinary societies, and population control are also discussed. The authors argue on behalf of including higher education, creativity, and leadership to promote participation in civic life as components of reentry programs. |
