The article offers information on the anti-communism ideas of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. It notes that his prime-time show on television has attracted millions of viewers and he was listed by the national poll as one of the top ten public figures in the U.S. It explores the role of religion in the U.S. during the Cold-War and highlights issues that influence policy decisions. It looks at Sheen's assertion that religion and patriotism were crucial to the cultural consensus of the U.S. It states that Sheen cast himself as a crusader to save Western civilization from Godless communism which had also defined his popular appeal in the postwar generation. It suggests that Sheen's influence on religion, culture, and foreign policy represents a microcosm of his religious revivalist era. |
