The article discusses a study on the definitive educational benefits of journalism to minority students in the U.S. that carry over into higher education. According to the findings of the study by Candace Perkins Bowen of Kent State University and Jack Dvorak of Indiana University, journalism students outperformed nonjournalism minority students in 12 of 15 major academic comparisons. The results suggested that minority students with high school newspaper or yearbook staff experiences had higher overall grade point averages in their first year of college. |
