The article discusses environmental problems in West China due to flooding, droughts, sandstorms, and soil erosion. Some problems are said to have been neglected, threatening living conditions and belying sustainable development. It discusses 5 regions of West China, their topography and meteorology, and the environment's susceptibility to human and climate-change impacts. Its ecology is called fragile and several large restoration projects are underway. It notes the adverse effects on the area's agricultural economy and the interplay between agricultural practices and environmental conditions. |
