The article discusses sun-induced skin changes like solar elastosis, actinic keratosis-cheilitis, keratocanthoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma in patients. It is suggested that patients with solar elastosis should limit their sun exposure and during their periodic reexamination, they should be counseled to see signs of change in their skins. It is informed that actinic keratosis also occurs from long exposure to the sun. However, unlike solar elastisis, it is considered to be a premalignant state. Keratoacanthoma is a tumor associated with sun-damaged skin. Basal cell carcinoma is said to be the most common type of skin cancer in the U.S. Its treatment includes electrocautery and curettage, excision, and cryosurgery. |
