The article discusses how teachers can offer support and supervision to paraeducators to ensure educational quality for students. The authors discuss how teacher development programs lack content regarding supervision of and collaboration with paraeducators and propose a systematic strategy for aiding and supervising paraeducators. They recommend developing a shared philosophy that paraeducators can provide feedback on and establishing communication between teachers and paraeducators that uses clear language and modeling to offer guidelines and examples of classroom procedures. Staff meetings can help promote communication and ensure proper functioning of educational teams. Assessment of staff abilities can prevent miscommunication and aid the preparation of teaching strategies. |
