The article focuses on the factors causing the damage of lingual nerve during the extraction of an impacted teeth. It describes the anatomical positioning of the lingual nerve, that is closely aligned with the alveolar nerve and states that factors that cause injuries to the nerve include poor flap design, uncontrolled instrumentation, fracture of the lingual plate. It mentions the symptoms of lingual nerve damage are divided into paresthesia, hyperesthesia, and dysesthesia and discusses the needed precautions for the prevention of potential complications, which include close radiographic examination, review of the anatomy of the oral cavity, and open communication with the patient. |
